Software has changed a lot since its inception, and it's changing even more every day. The fact that it can change so quickly is one of the best and worst things about software. Modern tools give us a chance to rethink some of those assumptions and get back to the fundamentals. Software should feel useful, thoughtful, and even exciting to use, the way a great class, tool, or new product can be. And whenever possible, buying software should feel just as straightforward. If a product isn’t providing an ongoing service, you shouldn’t have to keep paying for it forever.
